Service to U.S. Veterans

  • Serve coffee and snacks to patients at the Sepulveda V.A. Hospital Canteen
  • Donate clothing to the Sepulveda V.A. Clothing Closet
  • Donate food and supermarket gift cards to the Sepulveda V.A. Food Pantry
  • Participate in Operation Gratitude
  • Make scarves and gloves for veterans
  • Adopt military units  

Schools

  • Save Box Tops for Education
  • Visit local schools with materials about DAR scholarships
  • Provide local schools with information on American History Essay Awards for grades 5-8
  • Encourage participation in the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest for grades 9-12
  • Support DAR Schools
  • Inform local high schools about the DAR Good Citizens Award
  • Identify Jr. American Citizen Award recipients
  • Identify local schools with ROTC programs; present a DAR medal to outstanding cadets
  • Promote literacy by tutoring at a local school or senior center
  • Donate gently used children's books for donation to local school libraries
  • Volunteer to provide support to classroom teachers and students

 Libraries 

  • Donate books and funds to genealogical libraries
  • Organize library research trips
  • Sponsor Constitution Week exhibits at local schools and public libraries
  • Donate a “wish list” item to the DAR Library 

Chapter Awards

  • Serve on chapter Scholarship Committee
  • Identify and recognize outstanding individuals for community service awards
  • Identify and recognize notable women to receive Women in American History awards
  • Identify and recognize student essay winners

Conservation

  • Donate loose change to Mountains Restoration Trust and Tree People to assist with replanting of burned areas
  • Support chapter projects by redeeming CRV items
  • Donate aluminum can pull-tops to Ronald McDonald House
  • Present conservation tips at chapter meetings
  • Support chapter conservation projects
  • Restore Monarch butterfly habitats by planting milkweed seeds

Support Projects of the President General and the California State Regent

  • Contribute to restoration and improvements at the NSDAR complex of historic buildings and the collections they contain
  • Support the President General’s Project "Moving Forward in Service to America" by volunteering wherever needed
  • Donate to State Regent’s projects:  Monarch butterfly habitat restoration; create an oak leaf at CSSDAR Headquarters; help create an Iwo Jima monument at Camp Pendleton
